Outpost has introduced its second-generation gate automation platform, featuring a ruggedized kiosk that installs in a single day while reducing gate operating costs by up to 70 percent. The Austin-based terminal operator now handles more than 3 million annual gate events across its network of 30-plus terminals and customer sites.
The accelerated deployment represents a significant departure from traditional systems requiring months of installation work and even Outpost's first-generation equipment, which took roughly a week to deploy. The new platform replaces manual staffing typically costing $25,000 or more monthly per gate.
The ruggedized hardware includes cameras, touchscreens, document scanners, credential readers, and lighting. Engineers incorporated industrial-grade protections, including a mirror guard designed to deflect truck mirrors that approach equipment.
A notable innovation is the engine-canceling microphone system, which addresses acoustic challenges posed by diesel engines in outdoor gate environments. According to Outpost CTO Greg Akselrod, the custom system represents an industry-first solution built on learnings from millions of production gate events.
