PACCAR Issues Major Recall on 5,919 Model Year 2027 Trucks Over Electrical Distribution Defect

PACCAR is recalling 5,919 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks from model year 2027 due to a power distribution center that may contain oil contamination. The defect, reported to regulators July 27, could cause loss of engine power, antilock brakes, exterior lighting, windshield wipers or defroster operation without driver warning. The problem stems from a damaged air compressor filter at supplier PKC Group North America in Farmington Hills, Michigan, which allowed oil to contaminate circuit board soldering. Peterbilt 567 tractors were manufactured between June 9 and July 13, while other models were built between June 22 or June 23 and July 13. The Kenworth T680 accounts for the largest portion at 1,451 units, followed by the T880 with 1,221 units. Only approximately 3 percent of recalled trucks actually contain the defect. PACCAR will begin notifying dealers and owners in September, with repair instructions to follow once remediation is available.
