Panama's comptroller general said Friday that prosecutors will receive additional audit material next week regarding former executives at Panama Ports Company, the CK Hutchison subsidiary, and former port regulators. Comptroller General Anel Flores made the announcement at the Atlantic Council in Washington. The criminal investigation could prove more consequential than arbitration proceedings in the dispute between Panama and Hutchison. The audit materials may reveal findings that extend beyond financial damages calculations typically considered in commercial arbitration. Prosecutors will now assess potential wrongdoing among former port officials and company leadership using expanded documentation. The timing of the document transfer could accelerate the pace of criminal proceedings running parallel to the commercial dispute.
