Phillips Connect unveiled two smart trailer monitoring products Sunday at the American Trucking Associations' Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina, targeting defects that evade standard walkaround inspections.
Insights analyzes trailer sensor data to identify tire and lighting failures before they trigger roadside violations. TrailerSignal, a nose-mounted indicator light, displays green when a trailer is dispatch-ready and amber when issues are detected.
Tire and lighting violations directly impact a carrier's Vehicle Maintenance BASIC score under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Compliance, Safety, Accountability program. The 2026 International Roadcheck identified tires in 2,914 of 13,924 out-of-service violations—20 percent of total violations.
Phillips Connect's Insights product now pinpoints faulty circuits—taillights, running lights or marker lights—and distinguishes partial from complete failures. The system suggests probable causes including burned bulbs or moisture intrusion and tracks when faults resolve.
