Port Freeport has secured Mitsubishi Motors North America as a distribution partner, marking another step in the Texas gateway's automotive expansion. The port launched operations with MMNA and terminal operator AMPORTS on April 28, receiving more than 500 vehicles in the first month. A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony took place July 1 during the arrival of the Höegh Sunrise, which delivered Mitsubishi vehicles to the facility. AMPORTS has supported Mitsubishi operations since 1983 at Baltimore and Jacksonville facilities. Vehicles are unloaded and processed on-site before distribution to dealers across the Gulf Coast and Midwest. The partnership reduces inland transportation costs and streamlines supply chain efficiency. Automobiles represented approximately $2.81 billion of Port Freeport's 2025 imports. The port received an $11 million Maritime Administration grant in May to modernize 10 acres at Velasco Terminal.
