The Port of Long Beach unveiled a new Cyber Defense Operations Center on May 15. The facility positions itself as a critical shield against digital threats targeting one of America's premier container gateways. The center provides continuous monitoring and defense across networks essential to port operations, with staff blocking or stopping attempted cyberattacks every three seconds on average. The facility doubles the number of on-site cybersecurity personnel and integrates resources from the U.S. Coast Guard, California emergency services, and federal and local partners. Port leadership emphasized that digital infrastructure security underpins supply chain resilience, particularly given $300 billion in annual trade flowing through the San Pedro Bay complex. The announcement came as the port reported moving nearly 818,000 TEUs in April 2026, its third-best month on record but down 7% from April 2025, reflecting ongoing pressure from global market conditions and fuel costs.
