Qantas Freight has taken delivery of the first of three Airbus A321 converted freighters to bolster capacity for Australia Post ahead of the holiday shopping surge. The aircraft arrival comes weeks before Black Friday and Christmas peak shipping, when demand for overnight and next-day parcel delivery peaks across the country. Two additional A321s will enter service by March. The three jets will expand Qantas Freight's dedicated freighter network by 20 percent, enabling transport of up to 20,000 Australia Post and StarTrack parcels per flight. Australia Post will have nine dedicated A321s operating under the arrangement. The aircraft, converted by Elbe Flugzeugwerke, will be based at Qantas Freight's new Western Sydney International Airport terminal, which launched in July. The deployment supports a 10-year contract extension that also includes two A330 widebody freighters and belly capacity on passenger services.
