Qantas Launches Cargo Operations at Western Sydney International Airport

Qantas Freight inaugurated its cargo terminal at Western Sydney International Airport on Monday with the airline's first commercial all-cargo flight to Brisbane for Australia Post. This launch marks the beginning of a 10-year contract extension. The 258,000-square-foot facility is expected to process more than 160,000 parcels within 24 hours, supported by 12 overnight arrivals. Domestic routes will connect Western Sydney International with Melbourne, Cairns, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Perth, while Australia Post international services begin early next year. The facility operates around-the-clock without curfew restrictions, positioning it as a dedicated freight hub for perishables, pharmaceuticals, high-value goods and e-commerce shipments. The airport's first phase spans 7.9 million square feet and accommodates eight large freighters and 16 standard freighters simultaneously, with annual capacity reaching 298,000 tons. The expansion adds 33 percent additional air cargo capacity to New South Wales.
