RCMP Halts 392 Stolen Vehicles Worth $28M Destined for Overseas Markets

Canadian authorities intercepted 392 stolen vehicles valued at $28 million before export during a yearlong anti-fraud enforcement initiative. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police coordinated with INTERPOL Ottawa, Canada Border Services Agency, FINTRAC and financial institutions to stop vehicles fraudulently obtained through organized crime networks using false or manufactured identities. Criminal organizations used compromised credentials to secure vehicle loans and insurance policies, then attempted shipment through Halifax, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver ports. Project NoCargo, launched in June 2025, targets the pipeline at financial institutions rather than ports through real-time information sharing among suspected fraud cases and export activity. The initiative addresses vehicle-finance fraud linked to approximately $900 million in insurance losses annually. CBSA separately intercepted 1,590 stolen vehicles at rail yards and ports during 2025.
