Réseau express métropolitain commissioned its 8.7-mile Anse-à-l'Orme branch May 18, extending rapid transit service to Montreal's West Island for the first time. The expansion adds four stations across Pointe-Claire, Kirkland and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, opening to the public May 16-17. The milestone follows the 10.6-mile first segment connecting Brossard to Central Station in 2023 and the 20.5-mile downtown-to-Deux-Montagnes segment launched last November. The complete 41.6-mile, 26-station network targets 2027 completion. Alstom supplied 212 driverless metro cars and control systems for the project. Since November's second segment launch, ridership averaged 78,000 weekday trips with a daily peak of 104,000 and 99%-plus availability. The system operates 20 hours daily with four-minute peak-hour frequencies.
