Renewable natural gas has overcome longstanding barriers to widespread trucking adoption through advances in engine technology, fuel infrastructure maturity, and improved economics, according to industry leaders. The Cummins X15N, a 15-liter natural gas engine platform, delivers up to 450 horsepower and 1,850 pound-feet of torque with tens of thousands of units already deployed internationally and growing U.S. adoption. The engine is manufactured at Cummins' Jamestown, New York facility as an original equipment manufacturer product, addressing fleet operator concerns about product support and reliability. Major chassis manufacturers including Peterbilt, Kenworth, and Freightliner now offer natural gas-powered vehicles. This creates an integrated ecosystem from engine through final delivery. Clean Energy has expanded beyond traditional markets in refuse, transit, and airports into commercial trucking, capitalizing on what industry participants describe as a genuine convergence of viable technology, stable pricing, and established fueling networks.
