Six road feeder service providers have launched the International Road Feeder Association to address structural challenges in the air cargo trucking sector. The IRFA was announced at the Aviation Connect event in Athens, with founding members including Arthur Welter Transport, Georgi Transport, Wallenborn Transport, Jan de Rijk, Thor Xpress and Wymap Transport, representing operations across Europe, North America and Australia. IRFA chairperson Henrik Ambak said road feeder services now account for one-third of all air cargo movements in Europe, making standardization critical. The association will develop uniform service contracts and establish slot allocation standards at airport cargo terminals. It will also create data protocols for real-time cargo tracking and improve driver facility access. Terminal slot scarcity represents the industry's most pressing issue, causing missed flight connections and unmet pickup commitments. The group plans to recommend best practices across security, sustainability and safety while serving as the sector's primary regulatory liaison.
