Saia Inc. opened two new terminals this month in Duluth, Minnesota and Columbia, Missouri, marking the third consecutive month of facility expansion for the LTL carrier. The openings follow recent launches in Marysville, Washington and Edinburgh, Indiana last month, and York, Pennsylvania the month prior. Before this current expansion cycle, Saia had not opened any new terminals in 2025, a sharp reversal from 2024 when it announced ten separate facility openings. CEO Frederick Holzgrefe told analysts that Saia has invested approximately $1.8 billion in network and fleet over the past 36 months. This represents more than 19% of total revenue during that period. CFO Matthew Batteh noted the newer facilities are improving operationally, with year-over-year margin gains exceeding 2 points on the operating ratio. However, they remain above company average at upper-90s levels.
