Samsara Expands Fleet Safety Monitoring Beyond Incident Detection

Samsara introduced Ride Along at its Beyond 2026 customer conference, a fleet safety feature that evaluates continuous 10-to-30-minute driving sessions rather than isolated incidents. The tool assesses drivers against Samsara's 22-factor Safety Assessment Standard, providing fleet managers with comprehensive behavioral analysis instead of flagging discrete events like phone use or harsh braking. Managers can schedule sessions manually, trigger them automatically based on risk profiles, or deploy them during driver onboarding at 30, 60, and 90-day intervals. The company also unveiled an in-cab driver companion agent, a conversational AI tool that answers driver questions typically directed to dispatch. Early beta tester UNFI collaborated with Samsara through development and deployment phases. Company officials emphasized that implementation strategy proves as critical as the technology itself for fleet adoption.
