Samsara has launched a new capability allowing customers to query live fleet and operational data directly through popular AI applications including ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot. The new Samsara Model Context Protocol (MCP) offers more than 40 read-only tools at launch. These tools enable users to access information on vehicles, drivers, safety events and hours of service without custom integrations. Wisconsin-based Polyak Trucking used the connection to identify operational inefficiencies. The carrier's owner asked Claude to analyze driver activity at the terminal, discovering one driver spending more than 110 minutes per shift idle in the yard. The analysis recovered $53,000 in labor costs. The same operator used the tool to compare toll expenses across drivers on identical routes, uncovering a $50-per-load variance. Security permissions mirror existing Samsara access controls, with requests tied to individual users rather than shared API keys. The read-only tools retrieve data but cannot modify records.
