Attacks on Saudi Arabia's largest cargo hub caused Riyadh's outbound air cargo capacity to plummet 34% over 24 hours. Combined freighter and widebody passenger aircraft lift fell to 848 tonnes, with 26% declines over 72 hours compared to the previous week. Freighter-only inbound capacity dropped 77% in 24 hours. King Khalid International Airport handled 576,600 tonnes in 2025, establishing it as the kingdom's primary cargo gateway ahead of Jeddah's 458,900 tonnes. While Saudi authorities declared normal operations resumed Thursday evening, multiple international carriers including Lufthansa and Air India suspended services. Regional restrictions extend beyond Riyadh, with Najran and Jazan airports closed through October 15 and Abha limited to daylight flights. The disruption arrives as peak season approaches.
