The Port of Savannah is moving forward with construction of a 3.5 million TEU container terminal. Upon completion, the port will handle 12 million TEUs annually. The expansion comes as the Georgia port continues setting volume records, with September traffic up 3.7 percent year-over-year. The project reflects broader capacity investments across U.S. maritime infrastructure. In Alabama, a new $100 million inland rail terminal in Montgomery will funnel 60,000 TEUs annually to the Port of Mobile via CSX. These developments arrive as global container volumes reached a record 17.46 million TEUs in August, with ocean pricing at two-year highs. The Port of Los Angeles also posted its busiest month in 118 years, handling record volumes in September, underscoring sustained demand across the domestic container network.
