SCAT Airlines Enters Cargo Market With Boeing 767 Freighter Conversion

Kazakhstan's SCAT Airlines will launch freighter operations following an agreement with Boeing to convert a 767-300ER aircraft into cargo configuration. The move positions the carrier to compete in growing regional cargo demand as airlines redirect Asia-Europe routes through Central Asia amid geopolitical shifts.

SCAT becomes the first Kazakh operator of a 767-300BCF, targeting e-commerce and general freight flows between Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The converted aircraft carries 57 tonnes of cargo with 444 cubic meters of capacity across 24 maindeck pallet positions and 95 lower-deck positions, with a range of 6,190 kilometers.

Recent months have seen expanded freighter service in Kazakhstan, with Cathay Cargo and Emirates SkyCargo adding routes to Astana and Almaty respectively. The Kazakh government is prioritizing air cargo growth as part of its strategy to establish the nation as a leading Eurasian aviation hub.
