Senate Defense Bill Could Deliver $26B to U.S. Shipyards

Domestic shipbuilders stand to receive approximately $26 billion under proposed fiscal 2027 defense spending legislation awaiting Senate action. The funding would support construction of one Columbia-class ballistic-missile submarine and one Virginia-class attack submarine, according to Congressional Budget Office analysis. The authorization also includes advanced procurement for future submarine programs and DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, plus full funding for the Ford-class aircraft carrier program. Additional spending covers one anti-submarine warfare auxiliary vessel and two ship-to-shore connector landing craft. General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, HII Newport News, HII Ingalls, Fincantieri Marinette, and Hanwha Philly Shipyard would benefit from the allocation. The FY 2026 NDAA authorized similar shipbuilding levels, so this proposal maintains spending at roughly the same amount.
