Seven-Ton Drug Seizure Uncovers Broker Network Moving Contraband Across Border

Authorities dismantled a commercial transportation operation that moved 7 metric tons of illegal drugs valued at $139 million across the Canada-U.S. border. Windsor Police launched the investigation in January 2025 and revealed traffickers embedded within the legitimate trucking sector. They used established broker connections to arrange cross-border shipments of cocaine, methamphetamine and opium alongside legitimate cargo. Police executed 18 search warrants on June 25, followed by two additional searches on July 14 and two more on July 20. The seizures yielded 973 kilograms of cocaine, 660 kilograms of methamphetamine and 49 kilograms of opium. Officers also recovered 17 firearms, C$80,000 and US$10,000 in cash. The Canada Border Services Agency, Ontario Provincial Police and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations collaborated on the cross-border case, one of Ontario's largest single-operation seizures.
