Container carriers are fundamentally restructuring their global service networks, shifting capacity away from major transhipment hubs toward secondary regional ports. The latest Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index for the second quarter shows carriers have moved beyond temporary crisis response and are now embedding permanent network changes. Mega-hubs are hitting connectivity limits as shipping lines actively redirect capacity to regional relay points. These points better support supply chain diversification. The shift reflects prolonged Middle East instability and manufacturers' China+1 strategies. Gulf and Arabian ports are seeing significant gains. Jeddah's connectivity index rose 14 points, while Khor Fakkan surged 188.51 and Sharjah climbed 18 points. Fujairah also saw increases. The changes represent a strategic pivot toward decentralized networks rather than traditional hub-and-spoke operations.
