The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority selected the Skanska-Traylor-Walsh joint venture to design and build the Second Avenue Subway Phase II project, the partners announced June 1.
The $1.02 billion contract extends the Q line into East Harlem and Harlem. Three new stations will be built at 106th Street, 116th Street on Second Avenue, and a terminal station at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue.
Work includes structural shells for future stations, tunneling tie-ins, roadway decking, at- and below-grade entrance structures, excavation and utility reconstruction between 105th and 110th streets.
Mott MacDonald will lead design services. The project builds on Phase I, completed in 2017, which extended service from 63rd to 96th Street. Phase II is expected to reach substantial completion by Q3 2030. Once finished, the Second Avenue Subway will form a continuous two-track corridor to Lower Manhattan with connections to Brooklyn and West Midtown.
