Skilled trade worker compensation has jumped dramatically in recent years. Wage growth in skilled trades reached 30% in the U.S. over the past four years, according to recruitment firm Randstad. Europe also saw significant gains: 21% in the Netherlands, 18% in Germany, and 9% in the United Kingdom. Mechanics now command average salaries of $79,000 in the Netherlands and $76,600 in Germany. The surge reflects surging demand for physical infrastructure workers driven by rapid expansion of data centers and digital infrastructure. Entry-level workers with artificial intelligence capabilities are seeing wage premiums up to 25%, though skilled trades remain a competitive alternative. Randstad's CEO told CNBC that "the days of going to college and doing something in an office, they are over," noting that skilled trades now offer competitive career paths to traditional college-to-office routes.
