Broker load posts are climbing year-over-year across all major equipment categories while carrier posts have fallen sharply, signaling a supply-driven market recovery. Routing guides that held firm in March are now breaking down as shippers turn to spot market negotiations. Reefer rates climbed roughly 50 cents per mile from mid-April through July 4—roughly double the typical 10-year seasonal increase—even as produce volumes declined about 10%. Spot rates have risen nearly 40% year-over-year and are expected to remain near current levels through August. Contract rates continue creeping upward as they lag behind spot pricing. Carrier capacity remains constrained. Market exits and stricter qualification standards prevented new entrants from backfilling capacity. National rate averages mask significant lane-by-lane variation, with some corridors strengthening while others cool.
