Sucro Can Canada has begun operations at its new C$135 million sugar refinery at Pier 15 of the Port of Hamilton in Ontario. The facility is served by CN and Canadian Pacific Kansas City and will produce dry and liquid refined sugar in industrial packaging for food manufacturers. Construction commenced in 2024 and completed last month. The refinery is designed to become Canada's largest sugar processing plant, with planned annual capacity reaching 1 million metric tons. During its first full operational year in 2026, the facility expects to receive up to 10 vessels, increasing to approximately 14 by 2027. The location enables efficient raw sugar receipt by vessel and product distribution to food manufacturers across Ontario, Quebec, and the U.S. Midwest. The refinery currently employs 65 workers, with headcount expected to grow as additional processing systems launch.
