Switzerland's economic growth could suffer significantly if the country imposes a population ceiling of 10 million, according to a government-commissioned analysis. The Demografik think tank examined scenarios through the end of the century, comparing a capped population against natural demographic expansion. Without restrictions, Switzerland's population would grow to more than 11 million by 2100, the study found. That unconstrained growth trajectory would translate to noticeably higher gross domestic product levels compared to a scenario with a hard population limit. The study projects a potential GDP reduction of as much as 12% by 2100 under the population cap scenario.
