TVL Marine, a Taiwanese freight forwarder and ship manager, is re-entering container shipping this month with a Hong Kong-Taiwan shuttle service after seven years away from liner operations. The company will deploy five vessels ranging from 1,100 to 1,800 teu, including the TVL Keelung, which was recently redelivered from South Korean operator KMTC Line. TVL previously operated a Taiwan-Xiamen service before ceasing operations in 2019. Founded in 1972, the group initially ventured into ship owning in the 1990s before exiting the sector in the early 2000s. TVL group chairman Lee Chien-fa announced the re-entry during his Hong Kong office opening last month, citing the port's strategic position for deepening Asia-Pacific networks and enabling sea-air multimodal transport. The company is exploring potential joint ventures with other shipping operators and will coordinate operations across its agency network spanning more than 100 countries.
