Target Corp. has launched a $367 million food distribution center in Thornton, Colorado. The facility serves 129 stores across 11 states with faster replenishment of fresh and frozen goods. The 529,000-square-foot temperature-controlled facility represents the largest of Target's nine food distribution centers and marks the first equipped with consolidation capabilities. The center will reduce delivery times by up to two days while consolidating shipments from multiple vendors into fully loaded trucks, lowering transportation costs and streamlining operations at receiving facilities. The project will create more than 350 jobs. Target has added four food distribution centers in three years as it expands its fresh supply chain network. The retailer introduced 3,000 new food items during the first quarter, with sales growth exceeding 50% compared to prior assortments. The facility supports Target's strategy of positioning inventory closer to consumers while improving in-stock reliability.
