WS Game Company faced mounting pressure to relocate manufacturing after absorbing a seven-figure tariff bill on imported board games. CEO Jonathan Silva launched an ambitious effort to produce a commemorative Monopoly edition domestically for the nation's 250th birthday celebration.

The initiative exposed critical gaps in America's toy manufacturing infrastructure. Silva sourced game boards from a former Hasbro facility in Massachusetts and secured custom metal tokens from Stateline Industries in Liberty, Indiana. Pioneer Packaging fabricated game trays. However, locating a domestic dice producer proved impossible—Silva ultimately imported them despite tariff concerns.

Assembling domestic supply chains required more than a year, causing Silva to miss peak selling season. Manufacturing costs doubled compared to overseas production, yet the special edition retails for $80. The project underscores the complex economic realities facing importers navigating tariff policies.
