Judge Dianne Jones of Dallas County Court has upheld a $604 million judgment against freight broker C.H. Robinson following a fatal accident in Mississippi in 2021 that killed three people. The estate of Jennifer Lipe, one of the three persons killed, brought the case. Gorgonio Gonzalez, a driver employed by Lupus Superior (the carrier hired by C.H. Robinson to haul an Arizona Beverages load), was also killed in the crash. The verdict is significant for the brokerage sector. The jury found the driver was operating the vehicle for C.H. Robinson's benefit. The judgment represents an unprecedented verdict against a publicly-traded logistics company with investment-grade credit ratings.
