A 28-year-old Texas resident returned to the United States on July 10 after extradition from Qatar to face federal conspiracy charges. Abdullah Anwar arrived in custody in Collin County, Texas, where he faces charges including conspiracy to transport stolen property in interstate and foreign commerce, mail fraud conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy. Anwar fled the country while on pretrial release following a superseding indictment in 2021. Federal authorities determined the broader criminal organization inflicted more than $1 billion in losses over five years. Court records identify Anwar as a defendant in a larger conspiracy involving thefts from trailers, warehouses, distribution centers and freight consolidation facilities. The indictment alleges organization members obtained electronics through robberies, fraud and identity theft before coordinating shipment thefts across state lines.
