Two PlusAI trailers vanished overnight from the company's Fremont, California warehouse in September, with one bearing both PlusAI and NVIDIA branding. Thieves broke hand locks to remove the equipment from its docks. The company's vehicle operations team discovered the theft the next morning and immediately contacted Fremont Police and filed insurance claims.
The case took an unexpected turn when a friend of PlusAI's vice president of legal spotted both trailers outside a Newark office building, just minutes from the original warehouse. The witness photographed the equipment and alerted company executives. PlusAI's operations team recovered both trailers at the 39000 block of Eureka Drive. Newark Police responded and found the trailers appeared to have been forced open. All 40,000 pounds of sand—used by PlusAI for simulated load testing during manual truck evaluations—remained intact. The thieves abandoned the equipment after discovering nothing of value inside.
