Torc Robotics, a Daimler Truck subsidiary, has formalized an expanded partnership with Mila, the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, marking the only autonomous trucking company among the institute's industry collaborators. The agreement grants Torc access to leading machine learning research capabilities and top academic talent, including students, researchers and faculty members. Dedicated research space on Mila's campus will support Torc's expanded autonomy initiatives. The company plans to advance research in generative world models, multi-agent behavior modeling, reinforcement learning and foundation models for physical AI systems. Torc has maintained an affiliation with Mila since 2020. Felix Heide, head of artificial intelligence at Torc, stated the partnership enables deeper collaboration between academic research and real-world deployment. This collaboration is needed for commercializing autonomous trucking operations.
