Trailer net orders reached 43,059 units in September, jumping 385 percent year-over-year. This marked the strongest month since December 2022, according to FTR Transportation Intelligence. The surge reflects pent-up replacement demand and early openings of 2027 model year order books, with carriers accelerating purchases ahead of expected tariff-related price increases. Meanwhile, North American Class 8 truck orders totaled 19,172 units in September, declining 7 percent year-over-year and 15 percent month-over-month on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to ACT Research. The divergence signals fleets are prioritizing trailer replacements while delaying heavy-duty truck purchases. Regulatory uncertainty surrounding EPA nitrogen oxide emissions requirements and rising equipment costs are influencing the shift in spending priorities. Industry activity indicators show growing quote requests and proposal solicitations as carriers plan capital expenditures.
