Container rates on U.S. trans-Pacific routes climbed 8% week-over-week, with East Coast pricing near $9,000 per forty-foot equivalent unit amid renewed Iran-U.S. hostilities and West Coast rates at $6,700 per FEU. Carriers' July 1 general rate increases and peak season surcharges added approximately $1,000 per FEU, bringing total trans-Pacific gains to more than $3,000 since late May. Peak season demand continues driving pricing higher, though early seasonal peaks may constrain volume gains. Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd's planned return to Suez Canal routes faces renewed uncertainty following escalating Mideast violence and fresh Houthi warnings targeting Israel-linked vessels. European rates also spiked, with Asia-North Europe at $5,400 per FEU and Mediterranean routes exceeding $7,000 per FEU. Carriers plan additional mid-July increases of roughly $2,000 per FEU, though early demand peaks could limit pricing stickiness.
