Trans-Pacific container rates remained flat in the latest reporting week, with the West Coast holding at $2,800 per forty-foot equivalent unit and the East Coast at $4,300 per FEU. Spot rates have begun climbing from mid-month levels despite the overall weekly stability. Rates have gained approximately $1,000 per FEU since late February, driven by fuel surcharges, constrained capacity, and ongoing disruptions including the closed Strait of Hormuz. Industry analysts expect further price increases once peak-season demand materializes. The National Retail Federation projects peak season to commence in July. A key question remains whether carriers have sufficiently reduced capacity to sustain current pricing levels until demand accelerates. Year-over-year comparisons are unreliable due to tariff-driven frontloading and irregular demand patterns.
