Transportation rates surged again in June as tight capacity conditions continued to strain the freight market. The Logistics Managers' Index registered 92.4 for pricing, just 6 percentage points below May's record high. Transportation utilization jumped to 74.8, up nearly 6 points during the month as carriers prioritized load optimization and freight selection strategies. Capacity has contracted for seven consecutive months, with truckload carriers reporting that stricter regulatory enforcement has substantially reduced available supply. Existing contractual rates are failing to hold as shippers scramble to renegotiate pricing across their freight books. Public carrier executives indicated routing guides have deteriorated amid the supply shortage. Logistics managers expect sustained market tightness over the next 12 months. Year-over-year spot rates remain significantly elevated. Large retailers and companies with more than 1,000 employees accelerated inventory restocking activity ahead of peak season.
