Tender rejection rates have steadied around 13.57% after climbing above 17.5% during mid-summer peaks, signaling an orderly freight market ahead of the typically volatile fourth quarter. The stabilization represents a substantial recovery from January's cycle low of roughly 6%. Market participants now view 12-13% rejection rates as the threshold indicating tight capacity, a shift from the previous 8% benchmark. Spot rates gained 7% between late August and early September, offsetting earlier monthly declines. Seasonal pressures are building heading into fall, including a delayed Labor Day and back-to-school freight movements. Industry observers expect rejection rates to firm through September, October and November. The current environment provides shippers, brokers and carriers an opportunity to reset contract strategies before expected Q4 volatility.
