The Trump administration on Thursday delayed two EPA regulations governing refrigerant emissions and leak prevention, citing potential savings for businesses and consumers. The White House estimates the move will save American businesses and families more than $2. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said the changes allow companies to select refrigeration systems suited to their operations while reducing costs that could translate to lower grocery prices. The delayed rules, originally finalized in 2023 and 2024 under the Biden administration, targeted hydrofluorocarbons used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems across grocery stores, food distribution, and semiconductor manufacturing. However, the administration has not mandated that grocers pass savings to consumers. Kroger's CEO indicated the company is actively working to redirect savings toward customer pricing. Food prices remain politically sensitive ahead of midterm elections this fall.
