The State Department has suspended a $15,000 visa bond requirement for foreign nationals from five African nations attending the 2026 World Cup. Citizens from Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Tunisia who purchased FIFA tickets are now exempt from the financial requirement, which the administration imposed last year as part of immigration enforcement measures targeting countries with elevated visa overstay rates. The exemption applies only to visitors enrolled in FIFA's expedited visa appointment system as of mid-April. Athletes, coaches and select staff from World Cup nations had previously received bond waivers. Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Mora Namdar characterized the adjustment as essential preparation for hosting the tournament, stating the U.S. remains committed to organizing what officials describe as the premier World Cup event.
