President Donald Trump invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit the White House on September 24, signaling that U.S.-China trade negotiations will continue beyond this week's two-day Beijing summit. Trump made the invitation at a state dinner Thursday evening following a meeting with Xi. The Chinese leader indicated both nations have agreed to pursue "strategic stability" as a framework for the next three years, according to state media. China has not yet confirmed whether Xi will accept the invitation. The September visit would occur before the UN General Assembly meeting in New York and potential additional talks at the APEC meeting in Shenzhen in November or the G20 gathering in Florida in December. According to analysts, many deals may still need time to mature before completion.
