President Donald Trump outlined stringent requirements Friday for approving an agreement to end hostilities with Iran, signaling an imminent decision on the matter. Trump demanded Iran renounce nuclear weapons development and commit to keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to unrestricted two-way shipping without tolls. The president also stipulated removal of underwater mines from the strategic waterway, noting U.S. naval mine-sweeping operations have already cleared numerous devices. Trump referenced a B-2 bomber strike from 11 months prior that buried enriched nuclear material deep underground. He said only the U.S. and China possess the capability to excavate it. The material will be destroyed through coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Trump stated no financial transfers will occur pending further notice, with other agreed items of lesser significance remaining. He announced plans to convene the Situation Room to finalize his determination.
