Turkish Cargo Taps Lödige for Istanbul Terminal Doubling

Turkish Cargo has enlisted Lödige Industries to equip its expanded Istanbul air cargo hub. The expansion moves forward with plans to double annual capacity to 4 million tons. The SMARTIST 2 facility will feature a six-level high-bay storage system with 1,562 unit load device positions, nine 15-foot elevating transfer vehicles and ten 15-foot transfer vehicles. The expansion includes 23 10-foot elevating workstations and two 20-foot elevating workstations designed for ergonomic cargo handling. The project also incorporates 22 tilting decks, 76 right-angle decks and two 20-foot truck docks. Work is expected to conclude between 2027 and 2028. Turkish Cargo's existing SMARTIST facility, which opened in February 2022, currently handles 2 million tons annually and includes specialized zones for pharmaceutical, temperature-controlled and hazardous materials storage.
