A fully loaded Freightliner Cascadia struck a Kia Forte on northbound Highway 99 near Lodi, California on May 19, 2026, killing two occupants aged 16 and 20. The collision occurred at 12:20 p.m. when the sedan slowed in traffic behind a Nissan Frontier and Toyota Camry in the right lane south of Harney Lane. Heavy rescue equipment was required to extract one passenger from the wreckage. Five other people were taken to hospitals, with two sustaining major injuries. Driver Manvir Singh, 24, fled the scene on foot and was arrested nearby. Singh faces felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit-and-run charges in San Joaquin County Jail. Amritsar Trans Inc., DOT 3369665, operated the truck. The Manteca-based carrier showed six violations across 11 inspections in the prior 24 months, including speeding 15-plus miles per hour over limit and false hours-of-service records.
