Birchstone Management and Mile Hi Companies have agreed to combined settlements totaling $2 million to resolve federal employment discrimination allegations. The Dallas-based warehousing firm will pay $500,000 after investigators found it systematically rejected qualified women for pallet repair positions across multiple facilities. Since May 2020, the company rejected female applicants in Spokane Valley, Washington; Amarillo and Houston, Texas; Lakewood, Washington; and Las Vegas, instead hiring men with comparable or inferior qualifications. Birchstone will distribute $55,000 to one complainant and establish a $445,000 fund for affected workers. The company must overhaul recruitment practices, train hiring personnel, and submit to annual audits for two years. Mile Hi Companies, a Denver-based distributor, separately agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle an EEOC lawsuit filed in 2024 alleging discrimination against Black, female, and Afghan applicants.
