Nearly 2 million teu of containership capacity delayed at major North Asian ports following Typhoon Bavi's weekend landfall, with winds reaching 40 meters per second. Congestion analysis shows 54% of all global container port disruptions concentrated in North Asia, primarily Shanghai and Ningbo. Industry estimates suggest a two-week clearing period for backlogs. Shanghai, the world's busiest container port, ordered vessels from its Yangshan deepwater terminal by Friday 8pm local time. Ningbo, the third-busiest port globally, suspended container collection and delivery operations Friday before resuming. Carriers rerouted vessels and cargo through southern Chinese terminals at Yantian and Shekou, which the typhoon did not affect. One vessel omitted Shanghai entirely, transferring export cargo to another ship while skipping Ningbo. Containers meant for discharge were diverted to Hong Kong for transhipment to final destinations.
