Major U.S. freight carriers capitalized on robust third-quarter economic growth. GDP expanded at a 3.4% annual rate and shipment volumes rose across the sector. XPO led with nearly 6% volume growth and improved margins, though price increases moderated to 3.6% as shorter-haul freight demand intensified. Covenant Logistics reported third-quarter revenue of $353.9 million, a 19.2% increase driven by expansion in its managed freight operations. FedEx benefited from volume gains and premium logistics service pricing, including fuel surcharges, positioning the carrier for a strong peak season. Across the industry, carriers are balancing volume momentum against pricing pressure as freight flows remain elevated but freight rates stabilize.
