Uber Technologies is acquiring ezCater, a Boston-based workplace catering platform, in an all-cash transaction valued at $2.3 billion. The deal expands Uber's business-to-business food delivery capabilities by integrating ezCater's catering operations with Uber Eats and Uber for Business. ezCater generated approximately $5 billion in gross bookings over the trailing 12 months, with high-teens year-over-year growth. The platform connects businesses with more than 140,000 restaurants nationwide and provides corporate spending management tools. EzCater maintains profitability on a non-GAAP operating income basis and is expected to be margin accretive to Uber. The acquisition grants Uber access to higher-value scheduled deliveries from corporate meetings, employee meal programs, and events. The transaction is anticipated to close within coming months pending regulatory approvals.
