Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern Chiefs Discuss Merger Plans During East Coast Tour

Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena and Norfolk Southern CEO Mark George discussed the proposed merger during the Big Boy steam locomotive's cross-country tour, which concluded on the East Coast in early July. The historic 4014 locomotive departed Sacramento in April and drew thousands of spectators during USA 250 weekend celebrations. The executives discussed expectations for regulatory evaluation and covered Vena's view on what the Surface Transportation Board could have done earlier in the process. Both carriers submitted additional merger documentation to regulators as the evaluation proceeds.
