Union Pacific's Big Boy 4014 locomotive reached a significant milestone on June 5, operating on Norfolk Southern tracks for the first time since its 1941 delivery from American Locomotive Company. This marked the first day the historic locomotive ran under its own power on non-UP rails as part of its "America 250" cross-country tour. The integrated executive consist combined heritage cars from both Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern. During the journey, Big Boy 4014 stopped in Erie, Pennsylvania, where it was photographed at Wabtec's locomotive manufacturing facility alongside UP 102, a new battery-electric FLXdrive Switcher built for Union Pacific. The dual-locomotive display showcased heritage steam technology alongside modern electric switching innovation.
